ORIENTAL MINDORO HIGH SCHOOL CLASS 1956

HomeMESSAGES - GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY - MARCH 2006Sep 25, 2007
WELCOME EVERYONE TO OMHS CLASS '56 WEBSITE. YUP! CLASS 1956, A LONG TIME AGO INDEED! LAST YEAR WE CELEBRATED OUR GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY AND HOMECOMING IN CALAPAN, ORIENTAL MINDORO. WE CAME FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD AND SINCE THEN A NEW AND STRONGER BOND OF FRIENDSHIP DEVELOPED AMONG US. FOLLOWING ARE EXCERPTS FROM THE MESSAGES WE PLACED IN OUR GOLDEN JUBILEE SOUVENIR PROGRAM. PLEASE READ ON. . . . . . . . . . LINDA ARANAS MACALINTAL, 9/26/07

CECILIO "ISING" SAEZ
"Fifty years ago, we bade goodbye to our Alma Mater to pursue our respective careers. We were young and hopeful, confident and anxious,, determined and ambitious. We were starting to build our dreams. Today, after five decades, we have come back, hopefully fulfilled, but no longer the dashing Romeos and Juliets we used to be, but already card-bearing senior citizens with plenty of stories to tell...."

LEVY MENDOZA PALER
"In the beginning lies our jouney's end...." Five decades ago we left the threshold of Oriental Mindoro High School (OMHS) to embark on a journey to our future. We parted our separate ways and our lives took different paths. Individually and collectively we acquired knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue our individual dreams. Our alma mater prepared us for this journey to the new world..... Let us enjoy one another and celebrate our collective achievement of fifty years."

EDGARDO C. ACERON
"Finally, after this reunion, as we part and go back to our respective lives, let us look forward to the remaining years ahead of us as we await with same enthusiasm and excitement as we have now for the next grand reunion of Class '56...and the next...and the next. I'll be there. Be sure to be there too."

CHARITY PANALIGAN LEVISTE
"Looking back at the events that have transpired yet continue to touch my life, I can only utter a simple prayer of gratitude. Reflecting on the merits and demerits of the decisions I made, I can confidently express that I wouldn't have it any other way."

NORA ABOBOTO ALONZOSANA
"I was away for many years and far away from all of you but in my heart I never forgot the paradise island that is Calapan. The memories of the good old days, the simple life, the family and friends I left behind, still lingers in my mind."

POPOY NOKOM
"Huwag sana nating bigyang halaga ang pagkakaiba ng ating mga estado ngayon, at tulad noong 1956 tayo ngayon ay pantay pantay."

ABRAHAM ABAS
"Kahit gaano man kalayo ang ating narating, gaano mang karaming pgkabigo at tagumpay ang naranasan ng bawat isa sa atin, iisa ang tiyak na sigurado - babalik at babalik tayo sa lugar na pinagmulan nating lahat."

ERLINDA ARANAS MACALINTAL
"Fifty years ago, I was a shy, quiet and unimpressive 15-year old whose only saving grace was my ability to ace Mr. Fabian's Geometry tests and solve Mr. Pecson's difficult Physics problems..."

PITO ABAO
"Surely and gladly, aside from my lanzones trees, I also take pride and more of my family I raised and cared for so dedicatedly."

FRED VILLAO
"There is a little place in Tagaytay where I could pursue my dream - a little house with a big garden and golf courses nearby."

MILA S. TOLENTINO CUETO ***ALEX M. CUETO
"Since its inception, the Oriental Mindoro High School has been blessed with inspired leaders and dedicated members with a host of outstanding achievements. Unto whom much is given, much is required."

MILONOCHE
"When we liken Class '56 to a river, we believe this river has a strong, deep basin."

MELY LUARCA LAO
"For our dear classmates who had gone to the Great Beyond at an early age, may their souls rest in peace together with our Father Almighty"

BASILIO DE GUZMAN
"We are now in our twilight years. Who would have thought we would make it this far? Life looking back, was not a bed of roses. It was full of challenges, but with God's grace it was also checkered with victories."

AMELIA VILLANUEVA VALDRIZ
"My prayers for our classmates who are not able to be with us today be they far away or far beyond. I feel great to be with you all, to hug you, to talk to you, laugh with you, because deep in my heart, I LOVE YOU ALL.."

FLERIDA ARCON CAQUILLO
"We have now become what we worked for. Look at what we have now - doctors, lawyers, engineers, politicians, businessmen, and more so, loving parents (and maybe grandparents) whose children would not exchange them for anything else in the world."

AMOR MARTINEZ MARASIGAN
"Kaibigan, kumusta ka? Kay tagal nating di nagkita. Halika! Sabay tayong magbalik-tanaw sa ating nakaraan. Di ba kay sarap gunitain ang ating kabataan?"

CORAZON M. PATALINJUG
"My life has been one of seemingly unending peregrinations. And that is to put it mildly."

NICOLAS BANTA
"I always look back with gratitude to our alma mater for its role in preparing me for what I am today."

ROLANDO ONG
"Sana manatili sa ating isipan na ang bawat isa sa atin ay isa at bahagi ng kabuuan ng OMHS '56ers."

ERLINDA ACEVEDA BAUTISTA
"Mabuhay ang klase 1956 na subok na sa pagkakaisa at katatagan."

ZENY VILLAO DEL CORRO
"We are still the beautiful people as when we parted in '56. I can say some of us are more beautiful, graced by age and experience. We are now enjoying the blessedness of a quiet, tense-free, happy life. I believe our retiring years must be focused to the spiritual aspect, and to this I wish to concentrate."

MILA PASTRANA SANCHEZ,
"As we face another 50 years, I hope, let us carry on with greater enthusiasm to live life more to the fullest, consistently keep in touch with each other and keep the torch of friendship burning."

QUIRICO FALLARME
" Continue to pray for our nation, our province, the city of Calapan and its people as a whole and lastly, for another second jubilee."

DANTE CONTRERAS
" Let us endeavor to keep our minds young, abreast with the times and attuned to the spirit of God.... I may be over the hill, but I certainly am no dodo."

NORMA AND SOTER AYTIN
Mabuhay OMHS graduates, 1956. May the Almighty God bless us all!"

DING ENDRINAL
"I miss most of you, oh, so terribly. Godspeed!'

Then back to Vigan, Ilocos Sur where we stayed the second night..On the third day of our trip we toured Vigan, a charming City where old houses of Spanish architecture lined the street. We visited Vigan Cathedral and then did a lot of souvenir shoppings before heading back to Manila and Mindoro with stopovers at La Union and Pangasinan for food and more street shoppings. Dr. Fred Villao and wife,Nilda were among those who joined the trip along with Pito, Popoy, Ising, Erlie, Letty, Tarsit, Norma, Thelma and her niece, Tarcing and her daughter, and me.

Class 56 celebrated Valentine with a heartful party at Riceland 2 in Calapan City. Tarcing and Ising, through “luck of the draw” became Mr. and Ms. Valentine. There were lots of dancing and wildly entertaining parlor games planned by Mila and Erlie. Fred and Thelma won the “most hearts in their attire” contest. Pancho and Linda won the riotous musical eggplant game and many others took home prizes for winning various games. Nelia Marco and husband Pete Ocampo were the balikbayan attendees together with Fred and sister Zeny. In this event, Class 56ers once again showed that they are still full of life and love.

Thelma, not looking anywhere close to being 75 years old, held her 75th birthday at her beautiful house in Calapan. It was a "bongacious" event planned by her loving daughter, Loti. There was the traditional "Putong" by members of the local Senior Citizen Club and CWL of which Thelma is an active member. Of course, Class 56ers came in droves and dominated the dance floor.

Priority everytime I am in LA is to get together with the LA 56ers and to visit sick classmates. Loida Caaway Dormido is at a rehab facility after suffering a stroke few months ago She is not too happy where and with how she is now. Quirico, even though wheelchair-bound for several years now and is taken cared of at home, is cheerful and high-spirited.

The 55th anniversary of OMHS Class '56 was held on April 27, 2011 with a day long celebration in Calapan City. The day started with a 6AM mass at the Calapan Cathedral followed by a tour of the OMHS campus. The rest of the day was spent at Riceland II where breakfast, lunch and dinner were served on the buffet table. Four balikbayans from US (Fred Villao, Ed Sager, Rosie Ahorro Garces and Nenita Manahan Manahan) and several balik probinsya (Ising, Norma, Linda, Flering, Basil, Mercedes Arellano, and Popoy) joined the Mindoro-based 56ers in this entertaining, hilarious and oftentimes emotional celebration. An 800-picture powerpoint presentation of old pictures and myriad get togethers and reunions (prepared by Linda Macalintal) was continuosly projected on a big screen while the celebration was going on. An emotional "In Memoriam" was presented by Ising Saez to commemorate the 70 known classmates that had gone before us. Highlight of the celebration was the crowning of the Class '56 Muse and Escort (Ligaya Legaspi and Fred Barcelona). They were selected based on their gutsy determination to preserve their single blessedness after all those years. A tongue-twister parlor game '("womawagayway ang watawat ni Liwayway") pitted 7 Manila 56ers against 7 Mindoro 56ers, where the latter won) was arranged and sponsored by Dr. Fred Villao. Cesar Sison, Magno Celedono and Ed Aceron, the infirmed members of Class '56, gamely joined the wild celebration and even danced the pasa doble and boogied on the dance floor ( I almost cried watching that.). Ma'am Sery Acedillo graced the affair with her attendance.. Several raffle winners went home with major prizes courtesy of able members who will remain nameless. Everyone got little gifts from Ising and the needy ones got 3 kilos of rice each from the association. Lunch and dinner was sponsored by Fred and Lulu while the venue was sponsored by Linda Macalintal. Lechon was donated by the association's president, Tino Villas. Absent members who were big contributors were Lulu, Albert and Amor, to join Fred, Linda and Nenita who were present). T-shirts were sponsored by the Los Angeles 56ers. Very special credit goes to Tarcing, Erlie, Enteng and Calapan 56ers who did all the planning, footwork and legwork to make this celebration a big success.

Hi LInda, I know you had another gathering in Lobo last week. I tried to call you up but tulog ka na yata. Anyway, nagkusap kami nina Tarcing, Mely and Erlie. The conversation was lenghtly and enjoyable. I really miss the time I spent there with the group especially our chaotic gathering in Bulusan and Filipiniana. Ang saya natin parang ayaw ko nang matapos. But now that I am here, everything seems to have changed. Wala akong barkada and I have to work hard. I got two jobs from Monday to Monday. Right now, 12.15 am, Saturday, I am still working up to 8:00 am . Ang gulo ba? Hindi ko nga malaman kung bakit ako nandito and still working when I could be enjoying my retirement there. Masyado kasi akong adventurous eh. Are you really planning to go to California this month? Do contact me if possible. Bye.

Why don't you send me some pictures (through personal email) of you and your family taken there in the US so I can post them here in our website. Please make sure you put caption in each one. TO ALL CLASS 56ERS WHEREVER YOU ARE: Will you please do the same thing? Let us share current pictures of us and our family and let everybody see them through our website. I will be waiting...LINDA

What a terrific job you did with the web site Linda! Having 2 close friends from
Mindoro, I believe, qualifies me to be a an honorary Mindoreno. Say hello to Pancho & the kids for me. I still live in the LA area (am divorced now). Let me know when you are in town, I am interested in knowing how your transition from
life in the US to being back in the old country turned out to be. I am contemplating on trying the same thing. I could sense you adjusted real well.
Take care.
